Programs

FTDM offers a major and minor in film, television and digital media. In the Fall of 2010, it will also launch its new Sports Broadcasting major, pending final university approval. Each program encourages students to see the media from multiple perspectives, as students are required to take classes in three major areas: industry, production, and critical studies.

Types of Courses

  • Industry courses introduce students to the business and legal context in which media products are produced and distributed.
  • Production courses teach students the art of video and audio production, editing, writing, lighting, directing and more. In addition to learning practical technical skills, students in production courses are also taught the fundamental principles of professionalism and teamwork.
  • Critical Studies courses teach students to analyze a variety of film and television styles as well as the cultural and psychological impact of media texts.

The department's goal is to prepare students for a variety of careers in the media industries and/or for graduate study.
